Что выбрать, SIGMA AF 24-70 mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM или SIGMA AF 17-70 mm f/2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM и почему?

Разные системы, 17-70 только на кроп, 24-70 и на кроп и на фул. На какую тушку? Если Вам на сигму то , учитывая что рабочие у 24-70 и 17-70 миллиметры практически равны, аберации на ширике у обоих и картинка средняя у обоих, то я бы выбрал 17-70. И то, только из-за того, что на кропе 24 иногда бывает мало. И ещё плюс в сторону 17-70 это стаб.

Для этой тушки лучше 17-70. Про диафрагму очень хорошо написано здесь:

17-70 и да, снимать на прикрытой до 5,6-8.
но лучше новый 17-50 OS.
