Имею помянутый объектив и с удовольствием им пользуюсь - хороший конструктив, быстрый автофокус, на малых значениях диафрагменного числа - прекрасное боке, на больших (8-11) - очень резок. Full time manual, разумеется.

Единственное ограничение - минимальная дистанция фокусировки, которая слишком велика, чтобы "вычленять" детали, например, глаза - это придется делать кадрированием при печати или в фотошопе. Впрочем, это действительно мелочь по сравнению с достоинствами, которыми обладает 85/1.8.

Strengths: Overall, this is an incredibly sharp and contrasty lens with superior autofocus function in either single focus acquisition or tracking focus mode. Out of focus blur at f/2 (bokeh) is very pleasing for an 85mm lens. It is a very light and compact lens that provides high performance at a relatively inexpensive cost. In the f/4 to f/8 range, performance of this lens is hard to beat.
Weaknesses/Challenges: Image sharpness at f/2 on film is not at the same high level as those found in the top-line Canon telephoto lenses (135mm f/2 L and 200mm f/1.8 L) or in the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AF-D. If you are capturing images on a CCD or CMOS chip, the story is different.

Bottom Line: What do I use?

Canon EF 85mm f/1.8: I have forsaken film and moved to shooting gymnastics with two Canon EOS-1D cameras. I shot a Nikon D-1x for a few weeks with the 85mm f/1.4 AF-D, and results were excellent. The superior frame rate and autofocus function of the EOS-1D coupled with the superb autofocus function of the EF 85mm f/1.8 make this a clear winning combination for getting action gymnastics photos with great color, contrast, shadow detail and relatively high resolution. CMOS and CCD collectors in SLR cameras still do not match the resolving power of fine-grain ISO 800 film. The EF 85mm f/1.8 provides more than ample resolving power for contemporary digital image collectors as of 2002.

я вот добавить только хотел к предыдущему сообщению что вот до 2,8 картинка у него не очень. а так все ок

Я этим объективом очень доволен. Лучше отечественного Юпитера-9, во всяком случае того, что есть у меня.
На 1,8 все же снимать можно, хотя понятно, что на 2,8 будет резче. :)
